Summer Reading
Welcome to summer reading!
Below, you will find a book list that we have compiled for each grade level (based on next year’s grade) for our summer reading program. Our goal for this program is simply to keep our students reading as well as expose them to new literature. The children will be asked to read two (2) books of their choice over the summer from the grade appropriate list. Teachers will supply you with a basic book report form for one of the books that should be turned in after school starts. Teachers will communicate when this should be done. They will receive a grade when they return in the fall.
You will notice the book lists for grades 2 through 5 also include a choice of “challenge books” designed to do just that… challenge our stronger readers to stretch themselves. The list is simply to provide a framework for the types of books they are reading, a framing “tool” as you make decisions for your son or daughter. Also, always feel free to consult your child’s teacher for next year if you have specific questions on a book choice or would like to better cater to a specific reading need. Again, we want to put our students at a place where they best fit within the confines of the book list.
Also, with the goal being exposure, you, as parents, will be allowed to read with the student as needed. Most books can be found in any local library, so do not feel obligated to go out and purchase the titles. If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.
Rejoicing in Christ,
